The German Prize for Monument Protection 2019 will be awarded to 13 individuals and four associations who have rendered outstanding services to the preservation of architectural and archaeological heritage.
The German Prize for Monument Protection is the highest award in this field in Germany. It is awarded by the German National Committee for Monument Protection (DNK) to initiatives and media professionals who have made an important contribution to the preservation and rescue of buildings, old town centers, villages and archaeological monuments. In 2019, the award was presented by Vice President and future President of the German National Committee for Monument Protection, Dr. Gunnar Schellenberger, State Secretary for Culture in Saxony-Anhalt. The ceremony took place in Naumburg an der Saale.
Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of Culture Rainer Robra recognizes DNK as an advocate of monument protection
Minister of State and Culture Rainer Robra said: “The wealth of monuments is a great obligation for us. It reflects the historical identity of our country. It is also an essential basis for cultural tourism. The state government of Saxony-Anhalt is grateful for the diverse commitment in this area. The German National Committee for Monument Protection in particular is an important representative and advocate for the interests of monument protection and preservation, for which it deserves recognition.”
The designated DNK President Gunnar Schellenberger announces that the DNK will continue to strengthen the role of cultural heritage in the future. “The German Heritage Award recognizes the voluntary commitment to our cultural heritage. This commitment is an important task that should not be underestimated, because cultural heritage creates community and identity in a special way,” says Schellenberger.
The Karl Friedrich Schinkel Ring, which is awarded to one person, will be presented to the entrepreneur Dipl. Ing. Ernst Greten. He has shown exceptional commitment to the renovation and restoration of the Fagus factory in Alfeld (Lower Saxony) in accordance with the preservation order.
