The Association of German Landscape Architects in North Rhine-Westphalia, in collaboration with Baukultur North Rhine-Westphalia, presented the nrw.landschaftsarchitektur.preis 2026 for the twelfth time.
From among 27 submitted entries, the jury awarded prizes to five projects and gave honorable mentions to two others. In addition, a special prize was awarded for a regional strategy.
Among the winners are Franz Reschke Landschaftsarchitektur (Berlin) for the redesign of Lüdenscheid’s Old Town, Förder Landschaftsarchitekten (Essen) for the Schwerte Climate Garden; and studio grüngrau (Düsseldorf) for Parkstadt Wiehl, where the renaturalized Wiehl River serves as an urban landscape axis.
Other awards went to STERN LANDSCHAFTEN BDLA (Cologne) for the Witzhelden church site and to SOWATORINI Landschaft (Bottrop) for the outdoor facilities at the Grüner Weiler in Münster.
Honorable mentions were awarded to LILL + SPARLA Landscape Architects (Cologne) for a green roof at Koelnmesse, as well as to PLANERGRUPPE (Essen) for the conceptual project “37° Nordost,” which addresses the urban planning challenge of crossing a federal highway in Gladbeck.
The jury selected works that exemplify the contribution landscape architecture can make to climate adaptation, ecological revitalization, and high-quality open spaces—in both completed and conceptual projects.
