25 Years of Club L94 – A Quarter-Century of Passion for Landscape Architecture
Club L94 is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The Cologne-based landscape architecture firm will mark this special milestone on June 27, 2025, together with its team, families, and friends, as well as long-time collaborators, architects, clients, and colleagues.
The firm was founded by the four partners Frank Flor, Götz Klose, Jörg Homann, and Burkhard Wegener. They had met while studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, where the young landscape architects had bonded not only professionally but also as friends since 1994. This connection gave rise to the idea of establishing a landscape architecture firm together. In 2001, they finally founded Club L94 in Cologne and introduced themselves to the architectural world for the first time with a self-assured advertisement in the trade journal *Bauwelt* under the motto “Welcome to the Club!”

Today, Club L94 is one of Germany’s most renowned landscape architecture firms. With creativity, passion, and high design standards, the firm develops successful competition entries, which have led to numerous challenging planning projects. Among the most significant of the more than 130 projects completed to date are the design of the Nebra Sky Disk archaeological site, the outdoor facilities for AachenMünchener Insurance in Aachen, and the current redesign of the adjacent Theaterplatz. The park facilities for the 2018 Lahr State Garden Show—with its expansive Seepark and the urban Bürgerpark—have also shaped the firm’s profile. With the renovation of Brüder-Grimm-Platz in Kassel, another urbanistically significant project is currently underway, and its completion next year is eagerly anticipated.
From the very beginning, the concept of a “club” was central to the four partners. Club L94 was never intended to be a traditional company name. Rather, it embodies the idea of a place where people enjoy coming together, ideas take shape, inspiration is shared, and a shared enthusiasm for design brings people together. Instead of relying on hierarchies, the founders wanted to create an office characterized by openness, curiosity, and community.
This attitude is still reflected in the company’s culture today. Early on, Club L94 used social media to provide insights not only into competition wins and projects but also into the camaraderie in the office—from Carnival celebrations and group outings to numerous team activities. This spirit of openness and strong camaraderie remain important aspects of office life to this day.
After 25 years of successful landscape architecture, the four partners look back with pride on what they have achieved. At the same time, they are looking ahead: to a firm that grew out of the friendship of four college classmates and that, even after more than three decades of shared bonds, remains curious, seeks new challenges, and wants to actively shape the future.
