24-year-old architecture student Miriam Walther convinced the Baumeister Academy jury with her design for a flexible and mobile WLAN charging station, the Schutzkuppel. She started her six-month Academy internship at MVRDV yesterday. Here is a brief introduction to the student.

Reflecting architecture

Miriam Walther not only enjoys designing architecture, she also questions built structures. The reception, perception and evaluation of architecture is constantly changing. Each generation conquers building culture in its own way and comes to new conclusions. With architectural photographs and reports from her internship, Miriam wants to convey her view of architecture as part of the Baumeister Academy. In her opinion, the functional use of a building is always in the foreground. It is the function that integrates a building into the urban context and thus determines the overall concept of the architecture. Hybrid usage structures of buildings, as can be seen in the Markthal in Rotterdam by MVRDV, for example, inspire her.

In her application for the Baumeister Academy, she proposes a flexible, temporary installation of a WLAN station in the form of a protective dome that protects you from the rain while surfing the Internet. Her modular system is mobile, not tied to a specific location and can be set up flexibly wherever there are gaps in the network.

Miriam studied architecture in Münster. She is now taking six months to do an internship at MVRDV. We are looking forward to her reports on Dutch architecture, her experiences at MVRDV and to young, fresh perspectives on the Academy Instagram account.
