Editor-in-chief Fabian Peters is currently in Venice. He is taking you on a tour of the pavilions, like here in the German pavilion.
German Pavilion
The German pavilion is empty. More empty than it has been since it was built in 1938, says Arno Brandlhuber from the curatorial team. Originally, the film contributions that make up the main part of the “2038” project were to be shown on monitors, but the organizers have now left it at QR codes on the white walls. Why the effort for the tiny number of privileged people who can see the project in Venice? 2038 is virtual. It almost borders on clairvoyance that the curators have come up with a concept, a future utopia in the form of a retrospective of the year 2038, which the Biennale would not have needed as a physical event. And what will the Biennale 2038 look like? Without fences, without doors and without national borders, Arno Brandlhuber believes.
After the Architecture Biennale was postponed by one year, the exhibition will take place from May 22 to November 21, 2021 under the title “How will we live together”. Find out more in the digital insight into the projects of the Architecture Biennale 2021.
