When renovating your home, we use ceramic tiles to create a variety of design accents. Here are some tips, ideas, and information to help you achieve the best results.

At some point, it’s time to give your home a fresh new look. To achieve an attractive result with this personal project, you need the right material. This is exactly where ceramic tiles come into play, as they offer a whole range of design advantages.

In addition to the vast variety of colors, patterns, and sizes, as well as the different surface finishes and design options, they stand out for their natural look. Furthermore, the tiles are recyclable, durable, easy to maintain, and fire-resistant. Here are some practical tips, creative ideas, and valuable information about ceramic tiles that will help your home shine in new splendor:

Always Keeping the Environment in Mind

These days, one of the fundamental principles of renovating your home is prioritizing sustainability. Ceramic wall tiles are the ideal choice because they’re made from 100% natural materials. Their durable surfaces also help minimize maintenance costs. This creates a healthy living environment that benefits both people and the environment alike.

Creating Lighting Effects

When we use ceramic tiles in interior design, lighting—whether natural or artificial—takes on greater importance. This is because the material makes the most of light’s properties, helping to make rooms appear more spacious. Thanks to their polished or glazed surfaces, the tiles also have a unique “luminous quality,” enhancing the appeal of your home in a very special way.

Playing with Volume and Textures

Ceramic wall tiles with relief patterns are an example of how different volumes can influence the sense of space. The visual effects are very diverse: they replace linearity with movement and evoke images through touch. Combining these tiles with smooth surfaces also creates exciting contrasts in the room.

An infinite variety of colors

Color has a decisive influence on the atmosphere a room conveys. That’s why, before choosing a color combination, you should always consider the style you want to create. Thanks to the variety of colors found in our ceramic collections, you can bring to life any color scheme that matches your individual interior design style.

Unique Designs

By choosing the color, shape, or finish of the tiles, we give our home a very personal touch. But that’s not all: Among the endless aesthetic possibilities offered by ceramic tiles, we find tiles with graphics and patterns, including floral motifs, damask, geometric patterns, as well as digital or oriental-inspired designs. Ceramic knows no limits—every conceivable design is possible, making our home unique and original.

Balance between rooms

Thanks to the versatility of ceramic tiles, we can customize rooms and thus create a balance between private retreats and communal areas. Whether it’s the kitchen, bathroom, playroom, bedroom, or dressing room—or the living or dining area—we design every space to make our home a place of comfort for the whole family.

The KUNST AUF LAGER alliance is dedicated to all those objects that usually end up in depots but not in exhibition spaces because museums lack the financial means. The aim is to open up, research and secure valuable cultural assets that are hidden in storage. The representatives and partners met at the Bavarian National Museum in Munich to discuss the halfway point of the alliance. One of the funded projects was also presented here, a tapestry measuring 32 square meters and made before 1563 according to designs by the Flemish Renaissance artist Pieter Coecke van Aelst. The project was made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Foundation.

KUNST AUF LAGER takes stock at the halfway point – read the article in the upcoming issue of RESTAURO, available from September 9. Further examples of KUNST AUF LAGER funding can be found on the alliance’s website and in our RESTAURO issues from 01/2015 – in the regularly featured “Funded by” section on page 10.

A comprehensive technical article on the restoration of the tapestry will be published in the special issue of the next RESTAURO. You can find out more here.
