At the first Snøhetta Talk, which will take place on June 16 at 8:15 pm, Snøhetta founding partner Kjetil Trædal Thorsen and architect Anna Heringer will discuss with Baumeister editor-in-chief Fabian Peters. They talk about “Concept and Context”, two terms that are central to the work of both Snøhetta and Anna Heringer.
Kjetil Trædal Thorsen founded Snøhetta in Oslo together with Craig Dykers in 1989 after completing his studies in Graz. In the same year, the office won the competition for the new library in Alexandria, Egypt and gained its first international attention. Since then, projects such as the Oslo Opera House and the museums at Ground Zero in Manhattan and at the Lascaux Caves have made Snøhetta one of the world’s most highly regarded architectural practices. Nature and sustainability are themes that play a key role in Snøhetta’s work.
Anna Heringer is one of the most prominent German architects in the field of sustainable building with local and renewable materials. After completing her studies in Linz, her first independent project was a school complex in Bangladesh. Local craftsmen built this “METI School” using clay and bamboo. In 2007, a jury presented the school with the prestigious Aga Khan Award. Since then, Anna Heringer has not only built in Asia, but also in Africa and Europe. She has also taught at numerous universities, including Harvard, ETH Zurich and TU Munich.
