Is it possible to reinvent a classic like the round switch? You can. For example, by giving its appealing round shape a new frame. By offering it with pioneering technology and numerous authentic material variants. In other words: By rethinking the subject of switches and sockets in terms of form and function.
This is exactly what Berker has achieved in collaboration with designer Werner Aisslinger with the “Berker R.1” switch range. Its design creates a perfect link between historical form and contemporary interior design.
This is exactly what Berker has achieved in collaboration with designer Werner Aisslinger with the “Berker R.1” switch range. Its design creates a perfect link between historical form and contemporary interior design. “Switches have a half-life that tends towards infinity. A switch must therefore have something quiet and understated,” says Werner Aisslinger, a designer with studios in Berlin and Singapore. “As an everyday object that you pick up several times a day, it has to be friendly and appealing at the same time.” The Berker R.1 combines all these qualities in a congenial way. Formally, it creates a natural contrast by combining round buttons with an angular frame shape. Both visually and haptically, the Berker R.1 stands out pleasantly from the average switch – 80 percent of them are white, made of plastic and somehow angular. The 3 mm thick frames are available in a wide variety of materials. These include leather, slate, stainless steel, concrete, oak, acrylic, glass and aluminum. This makes the Berker R.1 a real point of contact. The switch series is also equipped with all the essential configurations and functions.
