As the STEIN editorial team has just learned, there will be no regular, “physical” Marmomac 2020 on site at the Veronafiere after all. However, there will be an online program. Our author Michael Spohr explains the new state of affairs.
After originally sticking to the planned date for the trade fair, the trade fair company in Verona has now decided not to hold a “physical” Marmomac this year. In the official press release published today in Italy, there is still talk of a “re-start” project, but this will only take place online in 2020, as confirmed to the STEIN editorial team. A decision that was certainly not taken lightly.
According to industry circles, the vast majority of machine and tool manufacturers as well as several other exhibitors had already canceled their participation in an on-site event. Apparently, the trade fair company now saw no other option but to cancel the event. The final cancellation of the leading ceramics trade fair Cersaie in neighboring Bologna had presumably also increased the pressure on Marmomac.
The reason given for the decision was the “persistence of the actual uncertainty situation in connection with the worsening of the Covid-19 emergency around the world”. As a result, it could not be guaranteed that the necessary conditions for compliance with the qualitative standards could be created.
Virtual forum in the Covid-19 crisis
In his statement, Veronafiere President Maurizio Danese emphasized the strategic importance of the trade fair system for Italy’s restart. The health emergency has also severely affected the entire stone sector worldwide. In this scenario, the Verona trade fair has the potential to help the Italian economy, companies and products “Made in Italy”.
The now planned implementation is to take place online from September 30 to October 2, 2020, the time window in which the “normal” Marmomac was also planned – with online meetings, virtual networking, web-based B2B contacts and digital events as well as networking and training events. According to the trade fair announcement, the aim is to bring together the entire marble, granite and processing technology industry community on the Internet. We will inform you as soon as the program for this “Marmomac Re-Start” is announced.
