Charles Jencks deceased

The Maggie's Center in Hong Kong

On Sunday, October 13, 2019, Charles Jencks passed away in London at the age of 80. The architectural historian was co-founder of Maggie’s Cancer Care Centers and designed landscapes such as “The Garden of Cosmic Speculation” in Scotland.

Jencks is known for his treatises on postmodern architecture. He has written numerous books on the subject, including “The Language of Post Modern Architecture”. His well-known works also include “The Architecture of Jumping Universe” and “The Architecture of Hope”.

Charles Jencks also brought his passion for architecture to his work for Maggie’s Centers: Centers dedicated to the treatment of incurable cancer patients. The centers are based on the theory that the patients’ environment can enhance their well-being, which is why they all feature unique architecture. Renowned architects such as Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Snøhetta, Richard Rogers and Rem Koolhaas designed the Maggie’s Center locations worldwide.
