Who hasn’t experienced it: the waiting time until a product is ready for processing often eats up a lot of capacity. This is also the case in the processes involved in laying paving and slab coverings in system construction. But tubag, Sievert SE’s premium brand for garden, landscape and road construction, has created a remedy for this – with the first ever drainable bedding mortar: EasyBettung.

The new EasyLay technology (ELT) from tubag is based on a newly developed mortar and binder formulation that does not need to be mixed. “Because the usual mixing process can be dispensed with, a complete work step is no longer necessary. This makes work processes significantly more efficient and increases the area output per employee. This offers companies new possibilities when planning, calculating and, above all, executing their orders,” says Georg Zimmermann, Product Manager for Garden, Landscape and Road Construction at Sievert SE. To clarify: the resting time after watering the surface is 36 hours. This means that not even two days after the surfaces have been laid, the joints can be closed with the usual grouts from the tubag range.

The entire application of the new product is extremely simple. The EasyBettung is applied to the prepared unbound base layer and activated briefly with the aid of a water spray after leveling to the correct height. To optimize the adhesive bond between the covering and the bedding mortar, the slabs or paving stones are coated with tubag TNH flex bonding slurry on the underside during installation. This is done either with a notched trowel or by dipping. After the slabs or stones have been hammered into place, the surface is completely saturated with water. “The innovative EasyLay binder technology has special lightweight aggregates that promote the absorption behavior in such a way that the EasyBettung is completely activated by the water that enters via the joints,” explains Endrit Imeri, Development Engineer for Mineral Mortar Systems at Sievert Baustoffe. What to look out for: The joints must be at least five millimetres wide, and when laying slabs, the short edge length must not exceed 80 centimetres.

What other advantages does EasyBettung have? The use of the tubag product pays off not only in terms of time, but also economically: Compared to conventional bedding mortars, the EasyBettung reactive scores with an approx. 25 percent lower material consumption. From July 23 to October 2, 2019, the space and sound sculpture SICHTUNG II will be on display in Munich’s Kreativquartier. The artwork was created by Hildegard Rasthofer and Christian Neumaier. It is a temporary artistic installation that can be walked through inside.

The artists Hildegard Rasthofer and Christian Neumaier used over 70 tons of steel for their sculpture SICHTUNG II. The dimensions of the artwork, which consists of 13 cubes, are variable: in Munich, it towers over 32 meters high with a base area of 2.4 x 2.4 meters – but as soon as the sculpture changes location, its dimensions also change.

It is created anew each time it is erected, depending on the location and situation. Under the name SICHTUNG II, the sculpture takes the form of a tower. Viewers reach the top level, an open platform, via a three-flight staircase.

As SICHTUNG I, the artwork already stood in Reithofen in Upper Bavaria in 2018. Following the exhibition in Munich, SICHTUNG II will be dismantled and reassembled in the mSE Kunsthalle in Unterammergau as SICHTUNG III.

Hildegard Rasthofer is an architect. She designed the modular sculpture together with the metal sculptor and master blacksmith. In their work, the two artists deal with experimental architecture and plastic-sculptural design.

The sculpture can be viewed in Munich’s Kreativquartier. Access is only possible during the opening hours of the site, via Heßstrasse (at number 134).
