According to the manufacturer, Sopro eScan helps to find sealing defects even before the test filling.

Even if the waterproofing has been applied in several layers, there may be small imperfections and the layer thickness may vary. Both are often difficult to see with the naked eye. Photo: Sopro

Difficult to recognize: Weak points in the sealing

At interbad 2018 in Stuttgart, Sopro from Wiesbaden will be presenting an electrical defect measuring system. It is suitable for checking cementitious and reaction resin bonded waterproofing systems. Sopro eScann is designed to prevent defects during subsequent use despite high loads.

To ensure that the waterproofing system of a swimming pool is watertight and achieves the required minimum layer thickness, craftsmen are known to apply the waterproofing material in two or three layers. Nevertheless, imperfections and fluctuations in the layer thickness can occur. These weak points are often difficult to detect and go unnoticed. They only become apparent during test filling. Then they have to be repaired afterwards and checked again – putting pressure on the time budget.
This is where the Sopro measuring system comes in. The device and a conductive intermediate layer, consisting of a copper tape and a conductive filler, check the seal. According to the manufacturer, Sopro eScann detects defects in the waterproofing even before the test filling. The system works with all Sopro liquid applied waterproofing systems. It is also suitable for testing other highly stressed properties, such as clinics and hotels.
