Before the Bundestag elections in 2025, the German skilled crafts sector formulated 25 points that require decisive action from politicians and a course set for a sustainable economic policy. Now ZDH President Jörg Dittrich is following up: “The emergency of change in Germany must come to an end. The skilled crafts sector is calling for a new course to be set for a sustainable economic policy and to strengthen the location. Growth, prosperity and competitiveness cannot be taken for granted. Skilled crafts businesses and their employees need clear signals of relief, new beginnings and stability.” With this statement, the President of the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts hits the nerve of a worried industry. The future requires concepts and decisive action.

Our author Dr. Alexandra Nyseth spoke to bathroom designer Torsten Müller about how much architecture and interior design rely on creative craftsmanship. You can read the full interview with surprising insights into natural stone in the bathroom and new trends from page 14 onwards. Our expert Michael Spohr explains from page 32 onwards what machinery is needed to compete in high-end bathroom construction. To do this, he traveled around Germany and Austria for you, visiting various stonemasonry companies and looking over their shoulders in their workshops and production halls.
From page 42 onwards, we look at sick leave in companies. In 2023, employers in Germany spent 76.7 billion euros on continued pay for sick employees. The costs have doubled in 14 years. Continued pay is an enormous burden, especially for small and medium-sized companies. We have researched for you what you as a manager can do for the health of your company’s employees.
