In the days before the pandemic: The last GaLaBau trade show in Nuremberg took place in 2018. Because COVID-19 made it impossible to hold the event in 2020

GaLaBau 2020 in Nuremberg cannot take place as planned. This was announced by Nürnberg-Messe and the Federal Association of Garden, Landscape, and Sports Field Construction (BGL). GaLaBau is normally held every two years at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. Spanning 14 halls and featuring demonstration areas for machinery, the trade show showcases the full range of products and services for the planning, construction, and maintenance of urban, green, and open spaces, and is regarded as the industry’s leading international trade fair. In 2018, 1,253 exhibitors from 37 countries participated in the trade fair, and 72,000 guests attended the three-day event.

GaLaBau is scheduled to take place again in 2022 as per the regular cycle. “The wishes of our exhibitors and visitors played a decisive role in our decision […]. [It] is based on a comprehensive survey of exhibitors registered for 2020. GaLaBau is an experiential trade show. It thrives in particular on live demonstrations, competitions, and the opportunity to touch and try out machines, equipment, and materials,” said Petra Wolf of the management team at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. Participation in the survey was very high and showed that concerns within the industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic were too prevalent to allow the trade show to take place in its usual format. “Our top priority is to act in the best interests of the entire industry and not to hold an event against its wishes.” adds Lutze von Wurmb, president of the BGL. “However, we are very confident that parts of GaLaBau, such as the popular Landscape Gardener’s Cup, could be held on-site and streamed virtually for viewers. We are now working intensively on such ideas.” The previously scheduled dates for GaLaBau, September 16–19, are set aside for this purpose.

GaLaBau 2022 will take place as scheduled from September 14 to 17, 2022, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. For the latest information, please visit the trade fair’s website at https://www.galabau-messe.com/de
