Which museums receive support?

With the “Invest Ost” program, the federal government remains a reliable partner for the promotion of culture in eastern Germany in 2017.

The Minister of State for Culture and the Media Monika Grütters has been supporting cultural work in the new federal states since 2004 with the “Investments for National Cultural Institutions in Eastern Germany” funding program. Under the program, the eastern German states provide “co-financing” amounting to at least 50 percent of the federal funding. They benefit important testimonies to our history in the East German federal states. Monika Grütters emphasized: “Once again this year, we have succeeded in supporting a wealth of nationally significant cultural institutions. I am very pleased about this. Whether the Fürst Pückler Park in Branitz, the Barlach Museum in Güstrow, the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Foundation in Leipzig, the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation or Altenstein Castle in Thuringia – they all point to diverse traditions that are formative for our self-image. Actively communicating this is one of our greatest tasks. Because only those who know their cultural roots can approach new influences openly and confidently.”

With the “Invest Ost” program, the federal government will remain a reliable partner for the promotion of culture in eastern Germany in 2017.

Federal funds are earmarked for 24 projects in all eastern German federal states, such as

for the museum furnishing of additional rooms for the famous armory in the Dresden Residential Palace

for the expansion of the exhibition at Chorin Monastery

for the renovation of the southern Kavalierhaus of the UNESCO World Heritage Oranienbaum Palace

for the renovation of the permanent exhibition at the Heinrich Schliemann Museum in Ankershagen

for the redesign of the children’s museum at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden and

for the further renovation of Altenstein Castle near Bad Liebenstein
