With the “Hamburg Prize for Green Buildings”, the Ministry for the Environment and Energy of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg awards prizes for special and innovative green buildings that are examples of successful design and use. A green façade, a playground on the roof, extensive green roofs or even unusual indoor plantings, whether for private, public or commercial use, can be submitted to the competition. Prerequisite: The greened area must measure at least twelve square meters and the building must be located in the Hamburg city area or one of the neighboring districts. Anyone involved in the realization can take part: Planners, developers, owners, tenants as well as initiatives and executing companies. A jury of experts will award prizes to the projects submitted. There are cash and non-cash prizes to be won; the best examples will be presented to the public as part of an exhibition.
