Green pitched roofs? Of course!

Extensive green roofs can be established well on roofs with a pitch of up to 35°, provided that their special features are taken into account: higher shear forces, faster water run-off and different sun exposure in north-south locations.

In addition to the appropriate system structure with the corresponding drainage element, the right choice of substrate and plants, such as pre-cultivated vegetation mats, erosion protection fabric and additional irrigation, the focus is on the shear forces that occur. These vary depending on the roof pitch, roof size, weight of the green roof structure and an assumed additional snow load. In order to ultimately transfer these forces into the roof substructure, a stable roof eaves and possibly additional shear sills in the area are necessary.

ZinCo has developed a permanently safe and elegant solution for this with the new stainless steel Schubfix LF 600 shear bracket. It has a load capacity of 600 kg and is used in conjunction with the stainless steel TRP profiles on the eaves or in the surface.

Schubfix LF 600 consists of a base plate (140 mm x 90 mm) plus holder (140 mm x 60 mm, height 100 mm), which must be sealed in accordance with the loose / fixed flange principle based on DIN 18195-5. The base plate is mounted as a fixed flange on a solid, sealed substructure, whether made of solid wood or concrete, and professionally sealed all around. A protective layer made of EPDM is placed over the two threaded bolts of the base plate so that the actual holder seals itself as a loose flange via the contact pressure.

This solution replaces the usual shear sills made of wooden planks, which are much more labor-intensive to seal. What’s more, timber can lead to material distortion and thus weak points in terms of tightness.

The TRP stainless steel profiles (height approx. 80 or 140 mm depending on requirements) are attached to Schubfix LF 600. Their slotted perforations always allow water to drain away unhindered. This eliminates the need for interruptions and slopes as with wooden planks and water pockets are also not an issue. ZinCo thus offers a technically perfect detailed solution that also offers visual benefits – with a “slim” roof edge.
