As a prelude to the commemorative year 2018, the Albertina in Vienna is showing a comprehensive exhibition on the work of Egon Schiele until June 17. The first day of the program of the 6th International EGON SCHIELE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM (9 and 10 June 2017) will also take place there. The following day will be held at the Galerie am Lieglweg in Neulengbach. The 6th International EGON SCHIELE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM (ESRS 2017) will take place at on June 9and 10, 2017 – on the first day at the ALBERTINA in Vienna, where the Egon Schiele exhibition will be on display until June 18, and on the second day at the Galerie am Lieglweg in NEULENGBACH.9 June – in addition to lectures and discussions – will be marked not least by the major Schiele exhibition at the Albertina (until June 17, 2017), which will also be viewed and discussed together.

On the second day, June 10, the symposium will meet in Neulengbach, where, in addition to further lectures and discussions, joint excursions to important original sites of Schiele’s life in 1911/12 are on the agenda. The detailed program of the symposium can be read and downloaded here:

The EGON SCHIELE RESEARCH SOCIETY (ESRS) was founded as a research society in Vienna in spring 2015 by members of the international editorial team of the EGON SCHIELE JAHRBUCH (ESJB), which has been published since 2011. The ESRS has been registered in the official Austrian Central Register of Associations with the ZVR number 411442208 as an association based in Vienna since June 5, 2015. However, the ESRS’s activities are not limited to Austria, but are also active internationally.

According to its statutes as amended on May 26, 2015, this non-profit research society is dedicated to the planning, coordination and implementation of research and teaching on the work of Egon Schiele (1890-1918), the culture of fin-de-siècle Vienna (around 1900) and early Austrian and European modernism.

In particular, the ESRS is now taking over the editorship of the previously privately edited EGON SCHIELE JAHRBUCH (ESJB) from the previous editors. However, they will remain as the editorial team of the ESJB on behalf of the association and both the content and the ethical orientation of the yearbook will continue unchanged.

The organization of the International EGON SCHIELE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM, which has been held annually since 2012, will now also be taken over by the ESRS.
