High-quality living space under the roof

Sophisticated loft conversions and additional storeys can be used to create additional living space relatively quickly in sought-after residential areas without taking up even more space. A successful example of this is Regensburg’s Ostermeier quarter with its extended pitched roofs in the heart of the old town. It consists of ten four-storey individual houses that form a square with an inner courtyard (architects: Lorenzen Mayer, Berlin). On a plot area of 3,100 m², 123 one- to six-room apartments were built. The valuable location was used intensively, including the irregular roofs with dormers and roof terraces. For fire safety reasons, the pitched roofs were built in solid construction. Concrete roofs also protect against outside noise and make living under the roof pleasant even at the height of summer. PUR on-roof insulation on the so-called coffin lid construction ensures an optimum feel-good climate in the attic apartments and more comfort throughout the house. The PIR system solution from Bauder allows direct screwing into the concrete structure, thus eliminating the need for thick shear planks or auxiliary rafters that would interrupt the thermal insulation layer. The “BauderTEC KSA” cold self-adhesive vapor barrier was applied to the concrete substructure, followed by the “BauderPIR SF” on-roof insulation. The thermal insulation elements, which are only 140 mm thick, are characterized by their particularly high insulation performance. The static load transfer is carried out in the BauderPIR system according to the calculations of the company’s own application technology.
