In issue 1/24, STEIN focuses on upscale interior design. We present a hotel with loving porphyry details, show a vacation home in Switzerland that combines natural materials such as wood and Vals quartzite and visit various flagship stores from the glittering world of haute couture. These include the Moschino store in Milan, which welcomes customers with an opulent marble look.

Outstanding craftsmanship

That “art comes from skill” may be a much overused pun, but it is not without its true essence. At the end of last year, the German Foundation for Monument Protection once again honored such exceptional craftsmanship with the Federal Award for Craftsmen in the Preservation of Monuments in Munich and Hamburg. The award-winning craftsmen once again demonstrated how much passion, craftsmanship and, above all, attention to detail they put into their work. Read more about the award on page 58 and in STEIN 2/24 a detailed article on the Vöhlinschloss in Frickenhausen, which won this year’s award.

Porphyry, showrooms and perfect interior design

The stone experts from Bagnara in South Tyrol also had to deal with detail-loving clients when renovating a hotel. They were able to demonstrate all their craftsmanship, coupled with an extraordinary sense of art, when working with porphyry in the interior and exterior areas. Read more about this from page 6.

For fashion brands, flagship stores are like the walk-in business cards of our time. They present the label to the outside world, so it is all the more important that everything in the showroom is perfect. Mahr on pages 20 to 24.

In order to produce perfect interiors, craftsmen have to take exact measurements in advance. From page 32, our author Michael Spohr shows how this can be done surprisingly quickly and accurately using the latest measuring technology.

Digitalization on the construction site

Technology on the construction site is also the subject of our author Annette Mühlberger’s article on digitalization. Her research shows that far too few companies are still using digital tools on construction sites. The case study on page 50 shows that many potentials remain unused and how easy it is to take countermeasures.

The magazine is available here in the store.

In the December issue of STEIN, we showcase swimming pools and wellness areas with sophisticated craftsmanship and architecture. Everything about the pool and spa issue here.

We hope you enjoy reading STEIN.

Advantage of facade green

Green façades offer advantages. This has now been supported by a study carried out by TU Darmstadt on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Green façades have many advantages. This assumption has now been confirmed by an analysis carried out by TU Darmstadt on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment of North Rhine-Westphalia. On 100 pages, the university has compiled facts that should provide important impulses for local authorities. The report focuses on performance and applicability. The data is illustrated using an example project in Aachen. The researchers found that façade greening counteracts heat stress, promotes biodiversity, retains rainwater, reduces noise pollution, filters air, provides shade and provides evaporation.

“Berlin is poor, but sexy!” This quote by former Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit became so popular that it shaped the city’s image. Since then, Berlin has changed – also economically – and it is debatable whether poor is still the right term. But Berlin still seems to be sexy. We asked our Academy winner Cosku Özdemirci to present her favorite places in Berlin that exude that certain Berlin charm.

The German capital is an attractive city: the crowded streets are proof of this. Everyone may have a different perception of what makes the city attractive. I think it’s more than the architecture, culture and work scene that draws people to Berlin. Perhaps it’s the atmosphere – the everyday spirit of the city that makes it so special. That’s why I tried to capture the moments that seemed special to me as I wandered around Berlin. The photo series shows the less attractive and not so beautiful corners of the city, which for me represent the Berlin spirit.
