For the twelfth time, Callwey Verlag, together with its partners bdla (German Association of Landscape Architects), BGL (Federal Association of Garden, Landscape, and Sports Field Construction), DGGL (German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture), ÖGLA (Austrian Society for Landscape Architecture), BSLA (Swiss Federation of Landscape Architects), GALABAU (Austrian Association for Gardening and Landscape Construction), Jardin Suisse—Swiss Association of Garden and Landscape Construction, the IVG, Neuhoff Naturstein, Light & Spaces, the trade fairs GaLaBau, Giardina, and Garten + Landschaft, Mein schöner Garten, Gartenpraxis, and GÄRTEN are organizing the GARDENS OF THE YEAR competition and are seeking the best private gardens designed by landscape architects and garden and landscape contractors in German-speaking countries. The premium partner of the “Gardens of the Year” competition is the Ebben Nursery from the Netherlands.

The magazines *Garten + Landschaft*, *Mein schöner Garten*, *Gartenpraxis*, *Gärten*, *zoll+*, *BSLA-Journal*, *G’plus*, and the *GaLaBau Journal* will feature the winning projects. The 50 best gardens will also be published in a comprehensive illustrated book by Callwey Verlag and showcased in an exhibition. Multiple projects may be submitted. The entry fee is 390 euros for the first project and 195 euros for each additional project. The awards ceremony will take place on February 25, 2027, at the Ebben Nursery.

For the third time, the “Newcomer of the Year” award will be presented to young firms (founded no earlier than 2023).

For the ninth time, the search is on for the best products in garden design.

“Gardens of the Year – Architects’ Choice” is the award for companies whose products make a significant contribution to the most beautiful garden projects. The winner among the submitted products will be determined by an online vote at www.gaerten-des-jahres.com by the Top 100 Gardens of the Year designers. At the start of voting, a fee of 3,900 euros (plus VAT) per submitted product is due for the media package. The deadline for submissions is October 5, 2026.

In 2027, the Garden Photography of the Year award will be presented for the eighth time: From among the 50 gardens featured in the yearbook, the jury will select a photo series that particularly stands out. The criteria include: perspective on the garden, overall impression, visual language, chosen framing, and representation of the garden.

Permaculture demands a new understanding of roles: planners become facilitators, administrative bodies become enablers, and citizens become co-creators. This is unfamiliar, but it also presents an enormous opportunity for innovation and social cohesion. Those who embrace this change will be rewarded with resilient, vibrant, and sustainable cities.

The future of permaculture in the city depends on whether we succeed in permanently integrating its principles into planning and decision-making structures. This requires courage, openness, and a willingness to experiment—but also clear political frameworks and innovative funding models. Uzin Utz provided information about its BIM application in floor planning at the newly created Digitalbau trade fair in Cologne from February 11 to 13, 2020. At the joint stand with Heinze, visitors were able to test the plug-in with ArchiCAD and Revit.

Users can use it to select the desired system components via a material query and upload them on a project-specific basis. Concrete ceilings, screed constructions for different loads, tile constructions etc. – around 3,000 parts in total – are output via structured online queries. With the help of the plug-in, all components can be updated automatically and collectively. “BIM will continue to gain in importance due to its benefits such as cost and execution security – for building owners, investors, architects and planners, the building materials industry, the building materials trade, construction companies and specialist tradespeople,” said Philipp Utz on the company’s digitalization strategy.
