i-architecture is a transdisciplinary architecture firm based in Bilbao and active throughout Spain and Switzerland. Their innovative and elegant designs reflect a deep connection with local materials and craftsmanship. An outstanding example of this is a kitchen in a house in Mallorca designed by i-architecture. The centerpiece of this kitchen is an impressive kitchen island made of Son Tafona limestone, extracted from the renowned Hijos de Miguel Mascaró quarry. This massive island not only forms a functional focal point, but also adds a unique aesthetic touch to the space, highlighting the natural beauty of the limestone. The design is complemented by a carefully placed stainless steel worktop located behind the limestone island. This combination of materials creates an exciting contrast between the warm, earthy tone of the limestone and the cool, modern look of the stainless steel. The stainless steel worktop not only provides a robust and easy-care surface, but also seamlessly integrates the module for the extractor hood, ensuring a clean and uncluttered appearance.

Burgbrohl / Bernd Lichter joins the management of RHODIUS Schleifwerkzeuge GmbH & Co KG. RHODIUS is the largest grinding wheel manufacturer in Germany and sells its tools worldwide to both specialist dealers and processing companies. In the course of restructuring and a generational change, the tool manufacturer has developed a new strategy together with its employees to realign the company. Accordingly, the management of the family-run company will in future consist of two managing directors and two division heads. The previous Managing Director Martin E. Davies is leaving RHODIUS at the end of the year by mutual agreement, emphasizes Bernd Lichter. He has been responsible for Sales and Marketing since October 1. He will soon be joined by a commercial director. Ernst-Henning Sager, Head of Sales, and Dr. Thomas Kamps, Head of Technology and Production, will take over as divisional managers from April 2019. With this realignment, the tool manufacturer aims to further strengthen its position and assertiveness on the national and international markets.

Architects, designers, chefs – Bompas & Parr have it all. The London-based duo work at the interface between performance and installation and like to spice up their architectural interventions with culinary extras.

Whether it’s a climbing wall made of chocolate or architectural icons made of jelly: Sam Bompas and Harry Parr hold up a hedonistically colored mirror to our event-addicted society – in an extremely entertaining way.

They presented their projects last Friday at the “Architecture Matters” event, for which Baumeister was a media partner. One of the projects on show was a chandelier whose light is generated by electrified pickles. This consumes an incredible amount of electricity, provides hardly any light and is also life-threatening – but also very amusing:
