A new Pixi book was published with the participation of the BDA: “I have a friend who is an architect”. It is designed to introduce children to the profession of architect. The Pixi books will be available in bookshops in spring. Until then, you can get a first glimpse here.

Professions for boys and girls

A red pointed cap with a friendly face, holding a round tub full of 10 by 10 centimeter Pixi children’s books – the well-known Pixi display with the little stories is a must in front of bookshops. To date, Carlsen Verlag has brought over 2,000 different titles onto the market and into German children’s rooms. The little books deal with fairy tales, adventures with Conni – and professions for boys and girls. So far, one group has been missing from the series on various professions: architects. Peter Schoof and his firm Jebens Schoof Architekten thought this was a great pity and therefore contacted both Carlsen Verlag and the BDA a year ago. In collaboration with illustrator Ralf Butschkow, they are now publishing a Pixi book of architecture: “I have a friend who is an architect”.

Silke is planning a kindergarten

In this Pixi book, little planners – or those who want to become one – accompany architect Silke on her work. Silke’s task is to convert a former shoe store into a kindergarten. According to Boyen’s media, the fact that the story is about a conversion and not a new building was a deliberate choice by those involved. The architects around Peter Schoof placed great emphasis on sustainability and ecology during the implementation. It is therefore not surprising that the architect is planning a garden and a photovoltaic system for the roofs of the new kindergarten. The story ends with ice cream and balloons.

Free Pixi books for little architects

The Pixi book about architecture should be available in bookshops in the spring of this year. The BDA Federal Association received an advance edition. However, it is already out of print. Only the regional BDA associations still have small quantities available – and the Jebens and Schoof office. According to Boyens Medien, all children who want to become architects can pick up a copy free of charge from the office at Speichergasse 6, Heide, and take a look around a “real” architectural office.

Literature not for the little planners, but for the big ones? Aimee Neff reviews the book “Unbestimmte Räume in Städten” on G+L.
