The Pixi book “Many wishes and an interior designer” aims to introduce children to the profession of interior designer. The booklet, which was created with the involvement of the bdia, follows a series of Pixi books that bring the disciplines of planning into children’s rooms.
Carlsen Verlag has published the Pixi book “Ich habe eine Freundin, die ist Architektin” together with the BDA, the Pixi book “Landschaftsarchitektin Lena plans einen Park für alle” together with the bdla and – who would have thought it – the Pixi book “Viele Wünsche und eine Innenarchitektin” together with the bdia. What do all the books have in common? They present the diversity of planning disciplines to young readers – with a focus on the female gender!
In this way, Carlsen Verlag wants to explain the profession of interior design in a playful way and literally bring it into children’s rooms. Because Anton and Thea’s home is becoming increasingly cramped, especially as they are expecting a sibling. The problem for the two children can be easily solved in the Pixi book. Just like a doll’s house, an extra children’s room could be added. Pia tells them both that this is not quite so simple and what challenges, but also opportunities, the sustainable redesign of a house entails. Pia is an interior designer who is currently converting a supermarket in her home town into a multi-generational house.
The Pixi book not only communicates what interior designers do, but also focuses in particular on the topic of sustainability. “It is better for the environment to convert and extend an existing house. A new build uses a lot more material. And procuring this also costs energy,” explains interior designer Pia when planning Anton and Thea ‘s new home. Speaking of energy: in the end, there is also a solar system on the roof of the detached house. Overall, interior designer Pia moves walls and extends the house upwards and downwards – with significantly more quality of life and space than before.
