Raumwelten 2019: unbridled enthusiasm from the public and the industry

For ten days, Raumwelten enlivened and inspired the whole of Ludwigsburg and the region with events on the topics of scenography, architecture and digital media. In addition to the established specialist congress, which attracted professionals from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the organizers once again demonstrated a keen sense for experimental and unusual formats for the public. The Raumwelten Congress was attended by 1,300 professionals, while Raumwelten Public attracted around 3,000 guests.

Successful mix: proven concept & new formats

Under the motto “Measured! Measure and Measurelessness in Spatial Staging”, top international speakers, regional start-ups and companies from the creative industries discussed new ideas and strategies for communication in space, providing the ideal mix for the enthusiastic trade visitors. The curators Veit Haug, Roman Passarge, Jean-Louis Vidière Ésèpe, Dr. Petra Kiedaisch and Prof. Tobias Wallisser offered a wide range of disciplines in their panels. Renowned speakers such as Dave Lavery (NASA), Marlies Arnhof (ESA), Nils Fischer (Zaha Hadid) and Thomas Winterstetter (Werner Sobek Group) provided valuable insights for the industry. The cooperation with the Art Directors Club (ADC) and the IBA’27 and the well-attended and extraordinary lectures with speakers Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, Bruno Maag and Édouard François demonstrated the relevance of the congress for industry partners. The final highlight of the congress was the Special Lecture with architect and philosopher Greg Lynn (Greg Lynn FORM, Los Angeles). Welcomed by the Mayor of Ludwigsburg, Matthias Knecht, Lynn impressed the audience with exciting insights into his work and bold visions for the architecture of the future.

At Raumwelten New Business, selected young innovative companies from the fields of VR, AR and spatial communication presented themselves in pitches to potential partners and investors. A space for networking, which was very well received by the participants, especially in the one-to-one meetings organized in advance. The New Business format was supported by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Housing. The Raumwelten Digital event, supported by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, with short presentations and an exhibition, once again highlighted the essential interface to digital media, VR and AR. The focus was on the new spatial concepts and applications that can be developed using digital, immersive technologies.
