In STEIN 7/23, we look at various restoration techniques. Nüthen Restaurierungen presents four current projects and the Managing Director explains in an interview where the greatest needs lie in Germany and how important stonemasons are in preserving important cultural assets.

Nüthen restorations

Monument preservation and stone restoration are inconceivable without stonemasons. With their work and expertise, they make an important contribution to the preservation of cultural assets. The company Nüthen Restaurierungen has been on the market for over 22 years and is one of the specialists when it comes to the restoration and conservation of natural stone and historic buildings. From page 28 onwards, you can find out how Managing Director Bernd Mönch and Maxi Rothe, master stonemason and qualified restorer, see the role of stonemasonry in their company now and in the future. From page 32, we also present some current projects from the Nüthen Restaurierungen portfolio.

Monument in front of Buckinham Palace

On the occasion of Charles III’s coronation celebrations, we took a look at a monument that stands in front of Buckingham Palace and on which the eyes of the world have recently been focused: the Victoria Memorial. It was erected in 1911 in honor of the founder of the Victorian era, Queen Victoria, and still shines marble white after more than 110 years. You can find out why from page 14 onwards.

Challenges in device selection

Starting on page 38, our author Michael Spohr takes a closer look at various air compressors. He looked over the shoulders of various stonemasons at work and asked where the challenges lie when selecting equipment.

Building fluent Johannes Münkel

In this issue, Annette Mühlberger looks at construction influencers, i.e. tradespeople who talk about their work on social media. Their posts are particularly popular with young people. And the industry is also happy to support videos and posts with equipment and tools. The social media star from the tile and natural stone industry is Johannes Münkel. Millions watch his video stories every day. Münkel modernizes bathrooms and reports virtually live from his construction sites. Read more from page 46.
