AKEMI
Although Stonetec was postponed, the STEIN editorial team has been doing some digging and, since the end of May, has been presenting you with plenty of news in the 06/2020 print issue covering materials, construction chemicals, tools & more, and art foundries. This news is now also available online—today we bring you the first part on construction chemicals:
Akemi, a specialty chemical and technical manufacturer, was set to present two new products at Stonetec 2020:
• The Transformer Max impregnation treatment, which offers extremely fast and intense color enhancement as a further development of the earlier Transformer. Higher coverage: 30–50 m²/l (on polished surfaces), food-safe and weather-resistant, suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Particularly suitable for color-matching treated (light-colored) edges and drip edges to resin-coated (dark) surfaces on countertops. Applications: Natural stone, terrazzo, cast stone, and quartz composite. Stone surfaces may be brushed, satin-finished, finely sanded, or polished.
• Professional application accessories designed to ensure the perfect application of care products for natural stone, quartz composite, and ceramic, including various types of mops and pads for different applications, matching mop and pad holders, buckets, telescopic poles, spray heads, and drain valves. Akemi states that it prioritized high quality, durability, and ease of use when selecting these accessories. Because these tools help prevent application errors, the high-quality construction chemical products can achieve their full effectiveness.

CODEX

FILA
Codex has recently expanded its range of accessories: The new professional leveling systems are called codex LS 1 and LS 2 and are primarily designed to quickly and safely compensate for height differences between individual elements when installing large-format tiles and slabs, ensuring a perfectly level tile surface. LS 1 consists of tension straps and wedges as well as a sturdy metal plier (suitable for tile thicknesses ranging from 6–12 mm), LS 2, featuring threaded brackets and ergonomic pull caps, requires no additional tools (suitable for tiles ranging from 3 to 20 mm). Thanks to particularly smooth-operating pull caps, over-tightening is virtually impossible; the open design makes it easy to clean and remove adhesive residue. Tabs are available for several joint widths: the codex LS 2 pull-cap system is designed for joints of 1.5 or 2.0 mm, while the codex LS 1 wedge system additionally offers a third option of 1.0 mm. Both types of tabs can be easily placed under the tile. This also provides edge protection, ensuring a high degree of safety when laying the adjacent tile. By gently tightening the inserted wedges or pull caps, you can achieve effortless and precisely controlled leveling of the tile surface while preventing over-grouting. Once the tile adhesive has cured, the tension caps and wedges can be removed by gently tapping them off—for example, with your feet—and can be reused multiple times.

LITHOFIN
Originally, Fila’s new, particularly powerful stain protector MP90Eco Xtreme was set to be the center of attention at Stonetec 2020. Features: According to the manufacturer, it is extremely effective and virtually incomparable to the protective agents commonly available on the market today, as it is easy to apply even when residual moisture is present and is said to be walkable after just two hours. The UV-resistant protection is particularly suitable for high-traffic areas subject to intense wear from washing, vehicle traffic, and foot traffic. Spurred on by the drastic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the Italian construction chemicals experts have now launched two new disinfectant cleaners that not only disinfect but also clean. Both products, Rapidsan and Sanifast, are suitable for all surfaces and are specifically recommended for natural stone, engineered stone, and porcelain tile. Fila emphasizes that the phases of cleaning, protection, and maintenance are always interlinked, even from a hygiene perspective: Disinfecting a dirty and damaged surface is pointless, as the effect is only short-lived. The two new disinfectant cleaners are suitable for surfaces in virtually any setting, from homes to schools and workplaces to medical facilities. The biodegradable, lemon-scented Sanifast is available in one-liter containers (box of six; coverage: 100 m² at a 1:10 dilution, 1,000 m² at a 1:100 dilution), and it removes up to 99.9 percent of germs from floor coverings, tiled walls, stairs, and restroom areas. Rapidsan comes ready-to-use in a 750-ml spray bottle (also a box of 6), is designed to be particularly eco-friendly, contains tea tree oil, and is suitable not only for STEIN and ceramic but also for a wide variety of surfaces, such as the oven, refrigerator, car, phones, office furniture, toys, doorknobs, and stainless steel fixtures. Both products are also suitable for rooms where pets live. They also eliminate odors and freshen the air.

This year’s highlight for Lithofin is its new website, which went live after a 13-month project period. Managing Director Garvin Stingel is pleased with the steadily growing number of visitors since then. “A website relaunch was urgently needed, as our ‘old’ website no longer met the latest standards,” said the company president, who is the third generation to lead the company. “We paid special attention to ensuring that the site is optimized for mobile devices and offers the best possible user experience for our visitors. Features such as the ‘Lithofinder’ product database and a dealer locator are still available. These have been updated in terms of design and usability.” The project was primarily carried out by the company’s in-house marketing team in collaboration with an agency from Baden-Württemberg. In addition to optimizing the online product database “Lithofinder” and the dealer search application, the integration of care instructions and FAQs was also a top priority; these help users with cleaning tasks and provide them with important basics on stone care.
