Dennis Willkommen, specialist lecturer in app development and mobile marketing and Managing Director of DroidSolutions, calls for more dynamism in the development and implementation of digital concepts in the cultural sector

Whether in collection management, public relations, administration or education: digitization and digital formats have become an integral part of the so-called GLAM sector. We often hear that this digitization is still in its infancy. On the one hand, this is correct if you consider the level of basic knowledge required, e.g. what possibilities and potential there are and how these can be used by means of mature concepts. On the other hand, the digital sector is constantly changing. Accordingly, the associated potentials and concepts remain highly dynamic and are subject to continuous change. All too often, the mistake is made of neglecting this dynamic. Instead, solutions are developed on the basis of static concepts that leave little room for flexibility and further development. This in turn means that solutions quickly become outdated after a short period of time, leaving users dissatisfied.
In future, more account should be taken of this dynamic, as it is inherent in the system, when developing and implementing digital concepts. Digital strategies and solutions must not be conceived statically, but must be designed to be flexible, scalable and sustainable from the outset. This goes hand in hand with a sustainable approach that creates long-term solutions and satisfies all stakeholders without ruling out future adjustments a priori.
