A sustainable timber construction with a sacred-looking opening at the top: The Serpentine Gallery presents the design for the Serpentine Pavilion 2022 in Kensington Gardens. For the first time, a non-architect has been commissioned with the realization. The design by American artist Theaster Gates is called "Black Chapel" and pays homage to British craftsmanship. It will open on June 10, 2022 and offer a whole summer of space for participation and public involvement processes.
