Unforgettable moment of movement

Freedom and peace are privileges that are often taken for granted in this country. It wasn’t long ago that things were different: 30 years ago, Germany saw a wall where there shouldn’t be one. But the population rose up. Together, they demanded their right to freedom and brought about the opening of the border on November 9, 1989.

To mark the anniversary of the fall of the Wall, Germany’s capital is celebrating the peaceful revolution with expressive art, among other things: from November 4 to 10, the oversized and dynamic art installation “Visions in Motion” by Patrick Shearn, artist from Berlin’s twin city Los Angeles and the collective Poetic Kinetics, will be floating in the sky in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The approximately 1,858 square meter “Skynet” made of a total of 120,000 multi-colored, partly reflective fabric ribbons moves almost weightlessly with the wind. The special feature: Young generations and the contemporary witnesses who rose up 30 years ago at have written forward-looking messages, wishes, hopes and memories on 30,000 of the ribbons over the summer. What was important back then is still relevant today.

You can find a video of the inscription of the messages here.
