The new Van Ham representative office in Berlin shows art in all its diversity, promotes direct exchange between collectors and experts and offers exclusive insights into high-quality collections.

Van Ham opens a new representative office in Berlin, strengthening its presence in northern and eastern Germany and making a clear statement about the continuous growth of the Cologne-based auction house. On 3 September 2025, Van Ham invites clients and art enthusiasts to a special event in the modernized premises at Niebuhrstraße 1 in Charlottenburg. Under the direction of Dr. Katrin Stangenberg, the store will present contemporary masterpieces from an important private collection from the Rhineland – a highlight that will artfully kick off the autumn season. The collection will then go on sale at Van Ham in Cologne in the fall.

Exhibition and fall auction

Under the title The Collector & his Gallerists. A Rhenish Collection, only works from one coherent collection are being presented in Berlin for the first time. These include monumental photographs by Wolfgang Tillmans, Andreas Gursky and Thomas Ruff as well as paintings by Werner Büttner, Leiko Ikemura and Norbert Schwontkowski. The works will also be open to the public during Berlin Art Week from September 10 to 14, 2025.
Van Ham is considered one of the leading German auction houses for large corporate and private collections. In contrast to international houses, which have recorded declining results in recent years, Van Ham has recorded growth of 18% compared to the first half of the previous year. The relocation of the Berlin representative office to new premises underlines this growth and strengthens the regional presence.

Service offer on site

Dr. Katrin Stangenberg has headed the Van Ham Berlin Representative Office since 2022 and has many years of experience as a consultant, lecturer and author as well as a degree in contemporary art. Dr. Stangenberg is involved on a voluntary basis in initiatives to promote art, including the federal initiative “Young Friends of Art Museums” and the Association for Berlin Merchants and Industrialists (VBKI). The Berlin representative office offers previews of the auction highlights and individual advice from experts. Clients can have consignments from all areas of art examined, from photography and painting to jewelry and watches. The aim is a direct exchange between collectors, experts and the auction house. The opening of the Van Ham representative office in Berlin expands the presence of the Cologne-based auction house in Germany and offers clients and art enthusiasts the opportunity to view current works, obtain advice and receive information on upcoming auctions.
