Programs for recording incoming goods and managing warehouse and order stock save money. In addition to a timely and realistic assessment of material stocks, accurate warehouse management helps with work preparation, material procurement and stocktaking. The solutions range from barcodes to GPS systems. In STEIN in March 2014, we present two companies with their electronic warehouse management solution.
1) At the Bachl construction group in Röhrnbach, the natural stone department manages its material stock using barcodes and iPads.
2. natural stone wholesaler STEIN & Co. in Ennsdorf uses barcodes and GPS to plan and control all material movements.
Managing the flow of goods efficiently
Working time and stock levels are important factors in any cost calculation. Keeping a constant eye on your material stock thanks to clever software saves valuable time in work preparation. One look at the stock list and the right item is quickly found. In addition to saving time, precise stock management helps to cut only as much stone as necessary for each order. In the event of inquiries, the stock list shows whether the required quantity is in stock or needs to be ordered first. Electronic stock management also simplifies stocktaking and helps to realistically assess the value of the stock.
As part of a higher-level merchandise management system, warehouse management provides important data on the status of the company. Material receipts and issues are recorded via interfaces to commercial programs and, if required, the material used can even be assigned to individual orders. In this way, the right material from the same batch can be found retrospectively when reordering or replenishing. In addition to the software, a hand scanner and a barcode printer are usually sufficient to operate an electronic warehouse management system. By linking warehouse management and production control via several barcode stations, the path of a raw panel can be seamlessly monitored from receipt in the warehouse to delivery as finished goods.
